Quilt Sew-a-Long 1930s Style from The Chester County Criswell Quilt

I am preparing to run a Block of the Week sew-a-long and I would love you to join me!

What's involved?

The sew-a-long is based on traditional blocks from the 1930s. Everyone is familiar with the Kansas City Star newspaper that printed a patchwork pattern every week. The KC Star was certainly the first and the longest running pattern publisher, but did you know that there were dozens of syndicated columns with hundreds of newspapers also publishing patterns?  That is the inspiration for this sew-a-long.

Each 6-inch block will be accompanied by some historic information, a picture of the ...

Quick Quilt Retreat from Mama Spark's World

I headed out last Thursday with my SIL, to a quilt retreat in Chesaning, MI.  The retreat was at Creative Passions.  We were in the basement of the big green house.  We love retreating there.  Our friend, Cori was not able to join us this year though and we really missed her!  Mary and I spread out our "stuff" and that was nice too.You can see my set up on the right.  Hers on the left and the

Block of the Week from Mama Spark's World

Lest you think it's all about baby (which it pretty much is at this point)  I am still working on the block of the week blocks.   Not very regularly and very slowly but still, LOL. I finally cut out 13-18 the other night. (18 is not pictured).   One of my goals this week is to get them all sewn.   I finally got these all sewn up last night.  Here you go, ready?

Block of The Week from Mama Spark's World

Over the Covid quarantine I started on a block of the week through Bits and Pieces quilt shop. I chose pinks and golds as my color theme. These are the blocks I have finished so far: I remembered to spin the seams on this one! I have been having so much fun with these blocks!  They are only 7 1/2" though so not sure how big this will turn out.

Free if you sign up for their newsletter.  I'm behind one week, but since the next block comes out soon I figure it will work out. I'm liking the pink and gold for this one.   What are you working on? ~XOP~

Fat Cat Patterns Added to BOTM for 2020… from Seams To Be Sew

I have been a fan of Sindy at FatCat Patterns for many years now. Each year I look forward to the new block of the month she will be offering. She’s changed how she does things now but a few dollars you can get a full quilt pattern. As you know I don’t advertise paid botm’s on my blog, but today by sheer accident I saw she had started a BOTM in her FB group. Sindy first offered Dog Days back in 2013. At the time I was just barely back into quilting and was only just ...

WooHoo, WooHoo, WooHoo…. Is It Ok For Me To Be Excited???? from Seams To Be Sew

Each year with sheer anticipation I look forward to various designers and their block of the months. I just know they have planned something special for us that year. I am always saddened when they decide to take a break or stop for a year or so, but I totally get it also. The sheer amount of work that goes into a block of the month for free or for purchase is unbelievable. You can’t even imagine unless you’ve done one for yourself. At the same time, if you’re creating that quilt I know you look forward ...

Happy Valentine's Day & Tuesday Tip from Quilt Crazie

Today was suppose to be a quiet Valentine's Day.  I told my husband I didn't want anything accept to go to an antique store that is having a sale this Friday.  So how does my day start out?  I attend Garden Club at my local quilt shop, Quilter's Garden and they hand out cute valentines.  Sweetheart paper folded around a Kiss of Hershey's chocolate.

Next I received a sweet text from my sewing sister, Cathy!  Then later in the afternoon I received a special mushy card from my husband, he's a keeper.
The biggest surprise ...
